Asymmetric Hydrogenation and Transfer Hydrogenation of Ketones

Optically active alcohols are important building blocks in the synthesis of fine chemicals, pharmaceuticals, agrochemicals, flavors and fragrances as well as functional materials (Arai & Ohkuma, 2011; Klingler, 2007). Furthermore, molecular hydrogen is without doubt the cleanest reducing agent, with complete atom efficiency. Therefore, the catalytic, asymmetric hydrogenation (AH) of prochiral k...

Highly enantioselective asymmetric transfer hydrogenation (ATH) of α-phthalimide ketones.

A mild catalyst system for the synthesis of chiral amino alcohols via asymmetric transfer hydrogenation (ATH) of α-phthalimide ketones has been developed by using a chiral Ru-TsDPEN complex as the catalyst in DMF/MeOH at 40 °C. The reaction exhibits high reaction activity and excellent enantioselectivity where up to 96% yield and 99% ee of the product were obtained.

Asymmetric hydrogenation of ketones: Tactics to achieve high reactivity, enantioselectivity, and wide scope

Ru complexes with chiral diphosphines and amine-based ligands achieve high catalytic activity and enantioselectivity for the hydrogenation of ketones under neutral to slightly basic conditions. The chiral environment is controllable by changing the combination of these two ligands. A concerted six-membered transition state is proposed to be the origin of the high reactivity. The eta(6)-arene/Ts...

Palladium-catalyzed asymmetric hydrogenation of functionalized ketones.

[reaction: see text]. A novel catalytic system for asymmetric hydrogenation of functionalized ketones has been developed using a Pd/bisphosphine complex as the catalyst in 2,2,2-trifluoroethanol. The reaction exhibits high enantioselectivity, and up to 92.2% ee was obtained.

Developing asymmetric iron and ruthenium-based cyclone complexes; complex factors influence the asymmetric induction in the transfer hydrogenation of ketones.

The preparation of a range of asymmetric iron and ruthenium-cyclone complexes, and their application to the asymmetric reduction of a ketone, are described. The enantioselectivity of ketone reduction is influenced by a single chiral centre in the catalyst, as well as by the planar chirality in the catalyst. This represents the first example of asymmetric ketone reduction using an iron cyclone c...
